My instinct is to say, that I wonder if historically where we have lived in a patriarchal world, that women have been shamed when it comes to matters of sex and pleasure. Therefore as a way to further put women in their lower status (historically). I was told that it was Eve’s fault that us women have period pain and labour pains🤷♀️. I have endometriosis, I can’t believe God gave me that - he loves me.
More recently, I heard that at a Christian camp, a visiting speaker told a group of youngsters that it was sinful to masturbate. I’m being more confused and appalled by some churches denominational interpretations of the bible.
It really makes me feel so sad and angry at times.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Emma, it’s a really tricky subject for many reasons and the Church generally does a great job of being a bad ambassador for it. I wrote this post initially because of the MANY issues of sexual abuse within the Church (see part 1 from last week). Yes it happens everywhere but why is the Church not a safe place from that horrific behaviour?? I’m very passionate about protecting children so this topic hits me hard particularly on this issue.
