To date or not to date? Even if you’re not a Christian, any story about my life in dating is bound to be highly amusing so stay with me…
It wasn’t until fairly recently that I realised the majority of my relationship life has been with non-Christians. In fact, I can categorically say that I have only ever been in a relationship with one bona fide, badge-wearing Christian in my life. It was in my early 20s, I thought we were a match made in literal heaven and he played in his church worship band. Dreamy. However, after about a year of dating exclusively, he said that God had told him I wasn’t his wife and he ended it over the phone while I was on holiday in Thailand.
At this point if you’re not a Christian you might be thinking ‘WTF’ but I can assure you, in Christian circles, this is a very valid reason to break up with someone. ‘God said’ is the ultimate cannot-be-questioned excuse and I had absolutely no retort to that. And look it sounds crazy but I’m not totally knocking it; said ex is now happily married (to another bona fide Christian) and with child so it seems there was some reasoning in his God-given reason. I just wish God had also told me the same thing. Then again, it’s very likely that I wanted it to work so badly that I just wasn’t listening!
And that, my friends, is the only true example I have of Christian dating so let me break down what I’ve learned from then men I have dated:
